When you read Harry Potter and you’re younger than the characters you’re like, “AW HELL YEAH! HARRY IS THE MOST BAD ASS HERO THERE IS. FIGHTING VOLDEMORT AND WINNING AND SHIT. AND RON IS SO DAMN FUNNY AND HIS FAMILY IS SO DAMN COOL. AND HOLY SHIT IS HERMIONE ANNOYING BUT THAT’S WHY WE LOVE HER, AM I RIGHT. THE THREE OF THEM CAN DO ANYTHING AND THEY DONT EVEN NEED HELP FROM GROWN UPS.”
Then you read Harry Potter and you’re older than the characters and you’re like, “It is so tragic that so much responsibility is falling on Harry’s shoulders. He’s eleven and he has relatively nothing but luck to help him face off against fully grown man, who happened to have killed his parents. And poor Ron is just an average guy who comes from a family of huge personalities and great accomplishments that he feels he can’t live up to. And Hermione is forced to work exponentially harder at school than her peers because her parents aren’t as fancy as everyone else’s and all she wants to do is prove herself as an equal and her classmates won’t give her a chance. They all have such high expectations and impossible-to-meet standards placed on them and they’re all so young and that just does not seem fair. And the adults can’t even help because they’re busy repairing a world left ruined by the a terroristic reign of a hate group even though there’s a civil war between their kind brewing in the not so distant future that’s gonna ruin it all again anyway… FUCK.”
Anyone care to help a poor young lad, uneducated in the ways of pirating, who just wants to see some sexy vampires?
EDIT: This season, I mean.
